Capture guide: how to record footage that makes good clips

Settings

  • 1080p or higher, 60 fps if the game runs at it.
  • Game audio only. No webcam, no voice chat, no music you don't own.
  • Turn off recording overlays, FPS counters and notifications.

What to record

  • Long sessions, 30 to 60 minutes. Don't pre-cut anything. The good moment is often the one you'd have trimmed.
  • Variety: different areas, bosses, deaths and fails, bugs, secrets, strange dialogue, late-game content.
  • Use cheats or debug mode to reach late content quickly. Nobody will know.
  • Play a little recklessly. Careful, expert play is the least interesting thing to watch.

How to send it

  • Drop files in your shared folder once a week. File names don't matter.
  • Old material is welcome: playtests, streams, trailer takes.
